Cold cast bronze, also referred to as bronze resin, is a technique involving blending bronze powder with epoxy resin to produce a material which is applied to the interior of a silicone mould. Subsequent applications of this will produce a shell into which an armature (wire frame) can be constructed. The mould is then filled with a blend of resin and metal powders which are left to set. The mould is then dismantled and the casting removed. It is then rubbed back to reveal the bronze surface and this can then be patinated (coloured) using a variety of chemicals. Jade oil is used to secure the coloration and a fine application of pure beeswax results in a lustrous finish.
This cold cast bronze piece if of a ninja warrior who has come to the end of a long journey, and is facing off with his nemesis. With his blade bared, holding the saya (scabbard) for the blade in his off-hand as an additional weapon, he is ready for whatever may be thrown his way. Even the fury of shuriken! This piece stands 7 3/4" high.
